I do not know about a ‘larger audience’ but the reason why so many filipinos go to game shows and try to win big prizes … because most of them just wanted ‘hand outs’ – walang hirap just ‘show me the money’ and no matter what the amount is … they will take it as long as it is free (with matching tears).
Cash prices
more opportunity to win or be selected
fun
have lots of pretty girls
up to date and very cool (not corny and stagnant)
obvious its the price they give. that show is really corny.
prizes.hey, boom tarat tarat. boom tarat tarat. ta ra rat, ta ra ra rat. boom, boom, boom boom.
Cuz it basically caters to the needs of the lower class. (No offense)
Most Filipinos below the middle class (which in reality are the majority of Filipinos) are easily drawn to things that embody the phrase ‘rags-to-riches’.
I don’t really watch the show, but a lot people I’ve known seem to show a bit of distaste for it despite it’s generosity. They say it promotes laziness and that due to the show’s nature, these Filipinos no longer want to work harder and just line up to win the show’s cash prizes.
Still that’s just their opinion so don’t push dat thumbs down button unless you hav a thing for wrongfully accusing people cuz I’m not lyk them.
It is because,,,,,,,,,,,,,wowowee is really great. They have many prizes and cash,,,,,And the host and their guests are really graet too,,,,…
yeah.. they have catchy songs.. eat bulaga have prizes too.. but in wowowee they give the prizes to those who really needs it… they are pang "masa" but i couldnt take all the corny stuff like dancing the boom tarat tarat.. and askin ur problems on televison, , but i love it whenever i see foreigners doing it . and i guess thats one of the reasons why some filipinos love watching it too..
because the poor people think that it’s an easy way to get money. the TFC subscribers like it too because the songs are funky or maybe its really amusing
I watch this show daily with my dad.
It ticks to a larger audience in the Philippines since:
1) There is catchy music which makes you want to get up and shake that booty, well maybe not!
2) Hot filipina dancers daily
3) The female presenters are HOT. OMG I want to have a 3 some with all of them!!!
4) Anyone can go to the show and have a a chance to win BIG. One person who was poor managed to win 2million pesos.
5) Willie, the host, interviews all the contestants and some of their stories are very heartbreaking to hear. It shows how prevalent poverty is in the Philippines and many people can empathise.
6) It’s a show that gives money to the needy in the Philippines.
Because they gave away so much money and that’s what majority of the Filipinos need. Many Filipinos are poor.
ABS-CBN is the #1 filipino channel and Wowowee is for all Filipinos outside the country or in the country.
I don’t realy know men! they r just very generous I guess… I’m not really in 2 ABS-CBN, I like Eat Bulaga better.
their show caters the masa and it’s funny
They are more appealing to lesser people and gives a warmer welcome to any walks of life.
because of the bigger money they give as a price in every contest. Eat Bulaga is good and giving but Wowowee shows more compassion to people especially the ones who belong to the masses – and this is what people want.. Besides, people think that Tito, Vic, and Joey are too old and as you know, people crave for variety that’s why people prefer to watch Wowowee.
Filipinos appreciate examples of actions that touch ones heart. Wowowee feeds on the hunger of Filipinos on actions that show sympathy and compassion. If you notice the show’s format you will see that they spend time touching sensitive subjects such as ones poverty, strife and eventually their resilience.
Filipinos are also highly amused by raw talent (thus our love for the karaoke machine as a favorite past time). Wowowee takes time to allow their contestants their few minutes of fame by being on TV and showcasing their talents what ever it may be.
Those two combined with a side of beautiful young dancers and an entertaining comedian who seems to be very real, humble and sincere in his actions (notwithstanding the invasion of people’s privacies by asking how many kids, income, unemployment and focusing on ones shortcomings – poorness?) and some catchy songs, you have the successful recipe of Wowowee.
You did not mention the audience from outside the Philippines – being that they too are allowed their 15 seconds of fame and having the same heart of gold as the ones at home combined with deeper pockets, you now have just what Wowowee needs – a strong financial support and a very good advertising pool.
they are generous when it comes to giving prizes.
because the way luningning giling
Cash and Prizes!
abs-cbn is closer than going to eat bulaga
verne
Their generosity and the dedication to reach and give out to the poor is one great factor. When you watch some of their episodes and hear stories from the homeless and less fortunate people, you will be surely moved. Unlike those people who watched Eat Bulaga where they simply just have fun and dissing other people, specially those people who are involved on ABS-CBN.
And to add up, Eat Bulaga hasn’t change that much since Day 1.. So, I think that people are really looking for something new and unique…
catchy songs….generous with prizes
ABS-CBN was able to understand and ride on the prevalent economic situation of a large segment of its viewers – - those who are in dire need. In all honesty, considering its noontime slot, if you have time to watch that show on TV or line-up outside the studio and spend another hour inside; then you are obviously not 1) busy running a business or 2) earning a living as an employee. For anyone in dire straits, the chance to win those prizes is too hard to resist. As for the TV viewer, seeing the underdog win big makes you feel good inside.
All those generous prizes are made possible by the show’s sponsors.
